As I was walking home from football practice today, I came across an old man, maybe around 80. It wasn’t the fact that he was so old that my attention. It was the fact that he had lost both his legs, probably from amputation from an old war. Thus, he was moving around in one of those electric powered wheelchairs. When I saw him, I said “Good afternoon, sir.” and walked off to the side to make it easier for him to pass. When I did those two things, I saw his face light up and he said “Thank you, young man.” It was then that I realized that such little things like this can maybe even make somebody’s day. I also noticed that even adding sir to the end of a sentence when talking to elderly people can bring their spirits up a lot. I mean c’mon…this man had both legs gone, and just doing what I did put a smile on his face from ear to ear. I know if I had been missing both legs, I would probably be at home crying. So guys, after you read this, just think about it. What can YOU do on a daily basis that can brighten somebody’s day considerably?
so true… the old folks have been through just a tad more than us youngins. glad you’re back in so cal.
